OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS SO FAR
- Since last September, the Oxygen Milonga has planted over 1200 trees via it's 'One Tree Per Dancer' policy, through The Nature Conservancy's Plant A Billion Program, and created and administered by Dan Rizzotto.
- The trees are planted in the Amazon rain forest in Brazil bordering Argentina, and they are native species: Ice Cream Bean trees and Golden Trumpet trees among others.
- Over the months our guests have included Evan Griffiths, Homer and Cristina Ladas, Brigitta Winkler, Shorey Myers, Daniel Trenner, Oliver Kolker and Silvina Vals, and many other breaths of Tango fresh-air.
THE OXYGEN TANGO MARATHON
On July 18th, 2009 we are aiming to double the number of trees we've already put in the ground through Tango. The Oxygen Marathon takes place on Saturday, July 18th 2009 from 9:30pm until 7:30 am! Our DJs are the pride of Southern California, DJ Lampis and DJ Sabah!
We have many exciting treats in store for the event! There are whispers of live cortinas by Schwee & Co.
This marathon is being put together for you all by Varo, Claudette, Anna, Dan, Stefan, Mitra, and many others.
Please join us in LA for the event itself and the fun throughout the weekend, including the CalTech Allnighter on Friday, July 17th.
Our goal for the evening is 1200 trees. We recommend everyone round up $25 for 25 trees. Be creative...
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
To participate in the event and get more oxygen into the world, here is what you do:
1. REGISTER FOR THE MILONGA
Email o3tango@gmail.com. Include your name, whether you are a leader or follower, and your housing needs. And make your promise to make this event a success, by writing, in your own words:
“I pledge to raise a minimum donation of $25 to plant 25 trees.”
2. CALL THE NATURE CONSERVANCY
Call the Nature Conservancy to add your name to the program, and get the ball rolling with your own personal token tax-deductible donation (recommended $5.)
Dial 1-800-628-6860. Say “I am a Tango Dancer going to the Oxygen Tango Marathon,
reference #12001264. I would like to set up an account and make a donation.” Ask for your account number before you get off the phone! This way, we can track how much money you raise for trees through Tango! The Nature Conservancy is open from 5am-2pm PST/ 9am-5pm EST.
3. TELL YOUR FRIENDS
Tell your family, friends, and coworkers about this amazing Tango fundraiser!
If they want to support you, they can call the Nature Conservancy at 1-800-628-6860. They should say, “I would like to make a tribute donation to the Oxygen Tango Marathon, reference #12001264 in honor of [Your Name], account #[Your Account].” Or, if it’s easier, you can collect cash from them and make the call yourself!
4. COME TO LOS ANGELES FRIDAY JULY 17TH TO REV UP!!
(Appetizer allnighter at CalTech on Friday!)
This epic hot Tango event that will be memorialized in the form of a dancing rain forest takes place at Tango Mar Vista on Saturday, July 18th. 12958 Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066. The cost of this outrageous milonga is $15 with the minimum $25 donation or $25 without the minimum donation.
Space is limited to 100 participants. First come, first serve! We are aiming to balance genders. So please register soon by emailing o3tango@gmail.com!
